About Us

Back in 1988, John Westren and his son, Stephen, decided to start a scrap metal recycling business out of a rented farm shed on the outskirts of Pukekohe. With only a beaten up ex air force J4 petrol Bedford truck  and very limited funds,  what would become SJ Metals  was born.

Although John had some experience and a  grounding in scrap metal, Stephen faced the challenge of learning the business from scratch . It was a steep learning curve for him, and after a long struggle of ups and downs,  they slowly started to  update their  trucks and  invest in other equipment required to deliver their service to a  growing list of customers.

With a focus  on delivering a first class service with honesty and integrity, and a passionate belief in recycling to save precious resources for our future generations, SJ Metals has grown and developed over the years, and it now operates out of a purpose  built premises with all the equipment needed to deliver a quality  scrap metal recycling service.    

Although John is now  but a fond memory,  SJ Metals remains a close-knit family run company with long serving staff members  who have all had many years of experience in the  industry, and who deliver their door to door service from South Auckland right up to the north of Waikato,
